Hello, and welcome to another update of www.epic40k.co.uk. What have we got this timer around? Well, the more
observant of you may have noticed the link above. This will open up a new window which will display the latest
Epic related news according to our friends over at NetEpic. I will try to sneak in some Gothic news occasionally
for Gothic fans, but this news area is run across all three Epic sites.
Also this time around we have yet another Epic Armageddon battle report, complete with fantastic pictures of the
game in action. This update also sees the pages for the second set of two fleets opened for the De'Aynes Spotters
Guide to Gothic. The Orks and Eldar are introduced this time around, with the fleet descriptions written up by
Shadow Hunter. Thanks to him for this.
Last, but certainly not least, we have the contents of Gothic Mag 14 added to the Gothic Index. This issue covers
three new ships and a number of scenarios, so the reference to the magazine should prove useful for the future. All
that is left to say is that there are a few big updates on the way, including a new new Gothic battle report, an Epic
Armageddon army list for the Genestealer Cults and the rest of the Spotters Guide. I will also do my best to get updates
happening more often than once a month. All the best.
UPDATE <14/04/2002>: After the update of last week, I had a little more time to put the finishing touches to the
Genestealer Cult Army List that I have been working on for Epic Armageddon. Rather than hold this over to the next
update, I thought that I would add it as soon as I can, so that I can get as much feedback as possible from you guys
(one of the advantages of actually running a site like this!). So, check it out in the Additional Rules sections, and
please let me know what you think - whether just by looking at it or if you have put together a list or played a game
with it (a brief battle report would also be great). I will take all comments into consideration. Thanks.
UPDATE <28/04/2002>: Yet another minor update. This time, we have the pictures from last weeks Salute event. I will
be adding more to this, and Darkone has a few pictures that I will add to the list, so keep checking back. You can find it
here.
===+++=== 03/03/2003 ===+++===
It has been a busy time for the site over the last month, and while that has not translated into a huge
update, it is all good for this place. So, what is going on? Well, almost overnight the EpiComms Forums became one
of the largest two web forums to discuss Epic. A grand claim, but one that I can convince you is true. Paul over at
www.epic40k.com has
not been well (and we all wish him the best), and so he decided to get his site going again by handing it over to a
team who could look after it. This resulted in the webmasters of three of the larger Epic sites (this one,
www.epic40k.com and NetEpic) chatting about the online Epic community. The conclusion, these three sites are now
closer and better co-ordinated, and all three now use the EpiComms Forums for their discussions. This is great for you,
as you get faster discussion and more variety, great for the site as it raises awareness and great for Epic as we can
get all the enthusiasts in the same place.
So, what else do we have this update? Well, looking through the links in the Additional Rules section, I noticed that
the Fanatic link went to the wrong page, so I have changed this (no-one told me!). I also got an email about our
article to calculate the points value of Eldar ships is Gothic, and so I have added the comments to this article.
We also have a brand new section opening this update. The De'Aynes Spotters Guide to Gothic is in the Battle Groups
section, and examines each class of vessel available to players. It should be useful for those of you needing advice
on tactics both with and against the ships covered, as well as providing a resource of painting styles. I have oopened
the sections covering the Chaos and Imperial fleets, and next update I hope to cover the Orks and Eldar. I have also
added a single ship, to show you how it works. Now need submissions from you guys. Feel free to send in your pictures
and articles for others to see, and the Guide will grow to be a valuable place for Gothic Players. To finish up, also
this update we have Gothic Mag 13 and Gothic Invasion added to the Gothic Index. This is being kept up-to-date as the
best place to find that article or picture that you are loking for without going through the stack of magazines.
===+++=== 15/01/2003 ===+++===
A serious update for you all this time around... cue the dramatic music... set the smoke to go... This update we
have an update to the EpiComms forums! Yes, it had to happen eventually, and over the last month or so I have been
installing and setting up a new forum. These boards are hosted on this site, putting them under direct control and meaning
a complete end to adverts and those annoying pop-us that I know many of you had trouble with. So, race over to
EpiComms version two, and let me know what you think. In the meantime, the previous boards will remain online for a
while, to let people reference them. This all does mean that you will need to register seperately with the new boards,
but this should also clear out all those registered members who are not regular posters. So, hope that you enjoy it,
and see the main thread in the Web Site board for information, and to leave comments and feedback on the new
system.
Also this time around, because I obviously have nothing better to do, we have a new link from the Epicollector to his
site, featuring a very good catalogue of Epic miniautres. Last, but not least, we are giving you all the Squats. Yes,
while Games Workshop deny these guys ever actually existed, this is only because they were hiding down the back of
the sofa. They have not been spotted and there are reports of Squats in space!
===+++=== 06/01/2003 ===+++===
Welcome to another update for www.epic40k.co.uk. With Christmas, and a very special project which is almost ready to
be released on an unsuspecting web public (more details next update), it has been just over a month since the last
update. However, there should be more than enough to keep you happy with this latest installment. First up, I have
added the details of Gothic Mag 12 to the Gothic Rules Index, although once again it did not appear and so this is
becoming a trivial task, and the contents of both Gothic Mag 12 and the Gothic 2002 catalogue to the Gothic Index.
There is also an addition to the web links section, for a site which covers tabletop wargames in their many various
forms.
Also, we have new Epic pictures in the Showcase from sihook. These have to be seen to be believed and show some
great conversions (see, it can be done in Epic scale!). Continuing with Epic, we have another two battle reports
from krimsonstarr in the Battle Groups section, with the usual great pictures. To finish off this time around, we
have a number of Gothic house rules from Nate - who is becoming a bit of a regular contributor to the site. These
rules cover logistical operations for space warfare, capturing enemy vessels by boarding actions, friendly boarding
missions to aid repair and linking two or more Blackstone Fortresses to create a super-weapon!
So, thanks for dropping by, and I hope that you find something to interest you. Remember to stop back regularly. All
the best, CyberShadow
===+++=== 22/11/2002 ===+++===
Well, what happened to October? One minute I am settling back after another update, thinking that I could give my
eyes a rest from the PC for a few days, and instead punish them with painting, and the next thing I know
November has started and people are asking me when the next update will happen. I must have missed it.
Anyway, my deepest apology to all who have been waiting for the update, my life got complicated again for a while. So,
on with the update. This time around, we really have a couple of special treats, hopefully making up a little
for the lateness of it all. First up, we have something that I have had sitting on my computer for a while, and
something that I have really been looking forward to uploading. An old behind-the-scenes friend of the site (also known
as my regular opponent, Commissar Tim) has the first of what I hope will be an irregular series of historical
scenarios. His first offering is an Epic engagement, transfering the battle of Slim River to the 40K background. He
has really gone to town with this, and included references, flash reports and full army lists. Not content with that,
he even had time to produce versions for both Epic Armageddon (one of the first Epic:A scenario that I have seen on the
web) and Epic 40K. If his employers are reading this, he obviously needs more work as he has too much free time! I will
chatting to him to try to persuade him to do several more of these, and also to work on some naval battles transfered
to Gothic.
So you Gothic players dont feel left out, we have several articles for you. Eldar players will be very happy as we have
a formula for calculating points values for Eldar vessels. I must sincerely apologice to Mr Kelley for the time that it
took to get his article formatted and uploaded. I expect to see a whole load more new Eldar ships stats sent to me very soon!
This is fine, but please also work on the models and background for your creations. Continuing our run of Nate-ivity, we have
two more articles from one of the more prominent members of the Gothic community. This update sees brief rules for fielding
fleets of Sisters if Battle, as well as Chaos fleets dedicated solely to Nurgle.
So, that is it for another update. The only other thing to mention is the new section at the bottom of this update
box. Each update, I will highlight a thread going on in the EpiComms Forums, in a cheap attempt to get people looking
over there and getting more involved. You never know, it might work. Until next time...
UPDATE <20/12/2002>: I had hoped to get one last update in for this year, but it seems that this is not going to be
possible. So, all that remains is to wish a Merry Christmas to the visitors of the site, and to promise that I will be
working away over the Christmas period to update the site early in the new year. All the best.
===+++=== 30/09/2002 ===+++===
A very busy update this time around. Firstly, we have a report and pictures from this years Games Day, thanks
to Blacksnotling. This is now living in the Library. Still a few people here? OK, also we have two fantastic
Epic Armageddon battle reports from krimsonstarr to keep the Epic players happy, and some pictures of Gothic
ships from Khyron, as well as a house rule for the Planet Killer gun from Nate. I have also added Gothic Mag 11
to the Gothic Index, so that you can find exactly what you need when you need it, and although there was no rules
status in this issue, I have updated the rule status page to show it. Well, that is quite a lot to be getting on with.
More next time.
===+++=== 17/09/2002 ===+++===
Welcome to another update of www.epic40k.co.uk. This time around, we have something for both Epic and
Battlefleet Gothic players. For Gothic, we have a tactics article for those of us facing the Nova Cannons
of the Imperial fleets. For the Epic players we have a suggested Eldar Craftworld list, and I have had to
open a new section for the Epic Armageddon rules. Take a look, try it
out and pop over to the EpiComms forums to tell us what you think. I am sure that your feedback will then
be taken into consideration by the author, Shadow Hunter, when it comes to the next version of the list.
In a surprise development, neither Epic mag or Gothic mag had their rules status pages included, Epic because of
the new edition and Gothic due to the Annual, I would guess. So, I have updated the rules status pages with no
update, if you see what I mean. Until next time, keep sending stuff in for the site. Thanks.
===+++=== 22/08/2002 ===+++===
Just back from my break, so things should be back to normal, with regular updates. Ahh, if only that were true.
I will try to get updates here as quickly and as often as I can, but things may be a little slow until September.
I can only appologise and promise that next month I plan to get this site really moving. But, for that I am going
to need articles and submissions from you guys. So, send in whatever you have, and while I wont be able to put it
up right away, it will go online as soon as possible.
With that said, what do we have this update? Firstly, we have a second article from Glen, who has rules for the
Chaos Marine Chapters in your games of Gothic. Rules are available for seven of the nine Chaos Chapters, so if you
think that you have great ideas for the other two, send them in and I will add them to the site.
After last updates Tau fleet list, Ray got in touch again and sent me pictures of some of the ships that he has
built using 40K Tau parts. These look really good, and so I have added them to the Tau fleet list. Also, both Epic
and Gothic magazine dropped through my door, and so I have updated the magazine index for both of the games. For
those who have not seen the Epic and Gothic index, they are a list of everything that I can find published by
Games Workshop and Fanatic, and where it is.
Other news this time around is that there will be a repeat of last years Gothic painting contest. Entries can be
submitted and viewed here. If you want to enter
this years competition, you will need to subscribe to the group. Also, near the bottom of
this page you can find a few
rumours and plans for both Epic and Gothic, gathered from Games day, Canada.
UPDATE <28/08/2002>: More news from webside. Nocture has some pictures from Games Day - Canada recently, as well as some news of Epic, and there
are a few pictures from the 2002 Gothic Grand Tournament in the States
here.
===+++=== 24/07/2002 ===+++===
I only have half an update for you this time. Sorry for the lack of new articles, it is not due to a lack of
submissions from you guys, or a lack of ideas from me, but a simple lack of time. Anyway, for this update we have
rules for a new set of Light Cruisers for Imperial Players from Nathan Montes (notice the correct spelling here!).
This article takes a basic hull and configures it in one of three ways, to give you the vessel that you need. Not
only will Nate be a familiar name to anyone who gets Gothic Magazine, but he is also a member of the High
Admiralty (and try as I might, he refuses to drop any classified information!). Nate actually threatened to
download a lot of rules. I called him on that. And he did. So, we may be seeing a fair amount of stuff from him
in the near future.
Also this time around, we have a couple of pictures from Axtklinge, in the Showcase. I am going on a well-needed
holiday soon. So, this site may not see an update for a few weeks. But, rest assured that while I am away from
my email, I will be checking in to the EpiComms forum as often as I can so this is probably the best way to contact
me if you need to. This forum continues to grow slowly and is becoming more active with both Epic and Gothic. Keep
sending stuff in to me here via email, and I will get back to it as soon as I can.
===+++=== 13/07/2002 ===+++===
It has been a little longer than normal to wait for this update, but I have not forgotten about the site. In fact,
I have been working on it and I hope that you will agree that it was worth the wait. Firstly, we have an upgrade
to the Players Index. This has always had the potential to be a big feature, not only of this site but of the
gaming community in general, and that starts today. The Players Index has been completely redesigned, and is now
working dynamically, meaning that you can submit your details right away on the web page and search the database
for players in your area. Try it out and let me know what you think about it. You will also notice that it has a
different look to the rest of the site. This is because I have plans for it to be available from a number of sites
dealing with Fanatics range of games, so that whatever site you go to, you will have access to a single directory.
This means that it should grow fairly quickly, and so your details can be accessed by people who dont even know
about this site. If you have previously sent your details to me, then I have added you to the new database. If you have
any problems then please drop me an email and let me know. To coincide with this upgrade, the Players Index has
moved from the Battle Groups section to a place of its own and a main link above.
Also this time around, we have an experimental Tau fleet list for Gothic. Ray has spent a lot of time and thought
developing this fleet, and has had advice and input from the Gothic Mailing List. The result is a functioning
list, as well as all of the extras that you need to field the Tau in your games and campaigns. In addition to this,
it is rapidly being accepted as the definitive fleet list for the race, and if there is one version which Fanatic
will draw inspiration from when the time comes, this will be it. If you decide to give this a go, and to construct
your own Tau ships for the game, send in some pictures for the site, as I would really like to see what people
come up with.
But, that is not all. We also have a couple of links added. One of these is for Blackstone Six, an excellent site
and one of my favourite Gothic sites out there, and the other from Robert Kuster. When he sent me the link to his
site and I had a look I also asked him to send a couple of pictures. He did, and the Epic ones are added to the
Showcase. I will add his Gothic pictures at a later date.
UPDATE <17/07/2002>: Some pictures have surfaced from a recent Forge World event, featuring both Epic and Battlefleet
Gothic. I know almost nothing about them, but anyway they are
here. If these are your pictures, get
in touch.
===+++=== 27/06/2002 ===+++===
We have a couple of Gothic additions for you this update. The first is the article written by Tom, the winner of
the sites prize draw, aka DeViouS. I am going to have to be a bit careful talking about this, as it is the rules
and stats for using Star Trek ships in your games of Gothic, but wargames has enough of a geeky image already!
Anyway, you can find this article in three parts in the Additional Rules area of this site.
Also this update, and as a mirror of the article which went up for Epic a while ago, I have my Gothic Index. As with
its Epic brother, this is a complete list of all of the articles, updates, rules and even mail order pages which
have appeared in Gothic magazine and various other places. I will keep this updated with each new issue of the
magazine, and it now also lives in the Additional Rules sections. Enjoy these articles, and we will have more
on the way as soon as I can get them formatted and ready for viewing. In the meantime, feel free to send in
whatever you think would fit in here, and drop into the EpiComms forums to chat about anything that you like.
See you next update.
UPDATE <02/07/2002>: New Wave has some pictures of the new Gothic ships, painted. You can find them
here.
===+++=== 09/06/2002 ===+++===
Well, the prize draw has officially ended, and as I type this I have just notified the winner. Expect an
official announcement very soon now. For this update we have something for everyone. Dan Foxman has
put together a spreadsheet registry for Gothic, allowing you to simply select the ship for your fleet and the details
are automatically entered. This means that you can just print out the roster sheet and the whole fleet can be
organised in a few minutes, it even adds the points for you.
We have also got a few 40K pictures from Khyron, and over the last week I have been looking at the fourth
edition of the Epic rules. I have gone through them and put together an article detailing my views. I also
managed to get a game together, and included a brief battle report in the article so that you can see how it all
works on the tabletop. As always, feel free to pop over to the EpiComms forums and air your views on the rules,
the article, the site or anything else Epic or Gothic related. Also on the subject of Epic Armageddon, our good
friends over at www.epic40k.com have started a section of their
forums dealing exclusively with the game, including a list of questions and answers which will have the eyes of
Fanatic to make sure that everything is as official as possible.
UPDATE <15/06/2002>: I have been making a few minor changes to the site. You should have noticed the links above on
this page. This is the next stage in their evolution, and they will probably change again over time. One thing
that I do worry about is that some people cant see the words over the background, so if this is the case please
drop me an email and let me know. I have also made the title bar in the EpiComms forum page as small as I can, in
order to give the maximum space for the actual forums. Again, let me know what you think.
Also, I can now announce the winner of last months prize draw. The dice picked Tom Murrath, from Belgium, and so his
subscription to Gothic magazine is already organised and he should get the first issue of that very soon. Well done to
Tom. I have also added a few closing comments to the competition page, and moved it into the Library, to be the first
of the site archive articles there. Now all I have to do is add Tom's Gothic article to this site, which is something
that I will do as soon as I can, probably next update.
Also, my Epic Armageddon article caught the eye of Jervis Johnson, and he was good enough to drop me an email. I have added
it to the end of the article as he clears up a few points that I made and clarifies a few of the rules.
===+++=== 27/05/2002 ===+++===
It has been an exciting time for Epic players as the demo of the Epic Armageddon rules were unleashed recently.
Download them from the Fanatic web site and give them a try. I hope to get a game or two with them next week
and put together a short article here. Also, Forge World have produced Epic Kroot, to compliment the Tau
which were released a few weeks ago.
Things have also been busy here, and as the prize draw comes to a close you still have a few days left to get
your articles or pictures in. I will announce the winner at the end of the first week of June. This update we have
the latest rule listings from both Epic and Gothic Magazine number 9. Also this time around, we have an updated
version of the Chaos Marine Fleet List. Glen is actually the author of the original version, and he has changed
a few things and added a Space Hulk to the list, but at the the cost of removing the option of the Planet Killer
for Chaos Marine Fleets.
Finally this update, I have added a complete list of the Epic material which appeared in the Epic Magazines. I have
been keeping this for quite a while, and a friend of mine was looking through it when he suggested that other people
might find it useful. So, I have added it to the Additional Rules section, with the Chaos Marine Fleet. Enjoy.
UPDATE <30/05/2002>: I have had a couple of comments stating that the links under the update dialogue were not
being noticed. So, I have moved them to the top. Let me know if there are any more comments.
