===+++=== 11/05/2002 ===+++===

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Salute pictures proved the most popular update that this site has had, and so we will do our best to bring you more of these whenever we can in the future. I also opened the sites first competition recently, and the articles and entries that were submitted for that will start to appear here. Hopefully, this will mean more interesting articles written by a variety of people. You still have a couple of weeks to get your submissions in, so feel free to send me something for the site. Anyone can sit down and write a story, and this could reward you for simply playing a game and sending in a report of it.

Speaking of battle reports (seamless linking!), I have added the first part of a game that was played a few months ago. This 'Gathering of Arms' Gothic game is in two halves, with the same scenario played with both sides taking turns as the attackers and defenders. Take a look in the Battle Groups section and see how the first game unfolded.

Over in the Additional Rules section, we have an article by Daniel Rothman covering the older Space Fleet Eldar ships and rules which allow you to use them in your games of Gothic. There are some great ideas here, and pictures of the old models as well. Also this update, we have a couple of new larger scale pictures from Tuffskull, and the more observant of you will have noticed that I have modified the Showcase slightly. I wanted to give more emphasis on Epic and Gothic miniatures, and so all other Showcase pictures will be in one of two groups. I have also added a link to the excellent home of Net Epic, and a link so that you can all vote for this site in a poll held by the Net Epic site.

So, a fairly busy update this time, and there are still quite a few things waiting in the wings. Any competition entries will be added to the site as soon as I can, but it may be a few weeks before they appear up here. So until next update, feel free to pop over the EpiComms forum and let us all know what you think of the recently additions, or anything else here.

===+++=== 30/04/2002 ===+++===

We have something a little special for you this update. Firstly, we have the pictures from last weekends Salute convention in London. Tim attended the day, with a camera, and took as many pictures as he could, including some great shots of the new Epic Tau and the Dark Eldar and new Tyranid vessels for Gothic. The pictures are in the library, and if any of you go to an event like this and want to send in pictures or write a review, feel free to do so.

We also have a battle group from Shadow Hunter as he continues to almost single-handedly keep the site afloat and moving in the right direction! This is a great start to this section, and I would really like to see more of these from anyone who visits. Keep checking back regularly, as there are a few things waiting in the wings for the near future, including the sites first competition.

===+++=== 12/04/2002 ===+++===

The updates are getting more regular around here, and this is largely due to the fact that people are sending stuff in and contributing to the site more. This is fantastic to see, but I dont want it to end here. I would love to hear from you if you are just passing through, and even more if you visit this site frequently. We also need a few more voices in the EpiComms forums, so please consider joining up there.

This time around, we have a new link added from Bob. He has a set of pages for Gothic which is very impressive, covering masterclasses for ship construction, new rules and stats (including some very nice rules for attack craft carriers) and his background. Also this update, we have an inpressive Gothic story from Shadow Hunter, a regular voice in the EpiComms forums. Finally this time around, we actually have a new Epic update! I have got around to typing up my force list for putting together an army from the Iyanden Craftworld. Most of the other Craftworlds can be represented with the normal force lists, but Iyanden needs a bit of a change to the estblished formula to make it fit. Anyway, give them a try and let me know what you think.

===+++=== 04/04/2002 ===+++===

We have something a bit different this update, as I have been sent a review of a Space Station model from Kallistra by Dave (in the Library - the review, not Dave!). This struck me as a really good idea. Most of us know what we are getting when we order a Games Workshop model, but what about the other makes. Maybe there is something out there that is perfect, but you have never heard about. Or perhaps that smaller company miniature is actually a nightmare to put together and there is no detail. So, I will add my own reviews of miniatures as soon as I can, and I encourage you all to do the same and send them in to me here. I have also updated the Gothic Frequently Asked Questions (in Additional Rules). This is the list of questions which crop up on the Gothic Mailing List amd which I reprint here for anyone who may need them. There are still a lot more of these to add, so expect me to update this list again in the near future.

===+++=== 23/03/2002 ===+++===

The big news to hit the Epic community recently is the whole truckload of new stuff from Forgeworld. Firstly, the long awaited Tau have finally arrived for the Epic battlefield, however at £12 for 25 (for Fire Warriors and more expensive for the other troops) they are placed firmly in the collector and display painters category. Any army of these little guys is out of most peoples league, but I guess that this is not really the point. There is also a rumour that plastic versions are being planned to make the Tau a more viable army, but that is quite a way off and the detail and variation will be more limited than their resin cousins. The tanks are, however priced more realistically at £7 for three and really are spectacular. Also, in the new releases are a host of redesigned vehicles. While I prefer the 'standard' Hydra, the Manticore is a lot better. See them for yourself here.

Both Epic and Gothic magazines sailed through my door last week, and so this update we have the Firepower and Brace For Impact rules roundup, an updated listing of which rules are official and which are trial for both games. Also, we have the questions and answers for Gothic from Warp Storm, to help you to clear up any problems and confusions during your games of Gothic. As mentioned last update, Fanatic have rearranged their web page recently, and while I like the new look it did make a lot of my links to their pages dangling with nothing on the end! So, instead of simply updating this, I have cleared away all of these links in the 'Additional Rules' section and replaced them with a single link to the Fanatic rules resources pages for the two games. This should make things easier and allow me to make minimum changes when things get changed again. While I was doing this, I also checked the links section and cleared out any deal addresses their as well.

For those of you who have missed it, Epic Magazine 8 has a follow up article to the generation of Epic Armageddon, as well as a very brief battle report. While I am unsure about a couple of the proposed rules as they are (or were when the article was written), I am very interested in the direction that this is taking and I recommend that people read this issue to get some real information.

===+++=== 11/03/2002 ===+++===

It has been a while since the last update, but I have been working on a few things. This update we have a treat. While we have had no battle reports at all, I have now uploaded not one but two! First up is a game that I have been writing up for quite a while now, and which is finally finished. As I was coming to thte end of that report, Jackhammer posted a report in the EpiComms forums and so I asked him to email it to me for inclusion in the main site. I should also say sorry to Jackhammer, as it has taken a couple of weeks to format and upload his report.

Anyway, that is it for now. I will try to update this place again soon, real world troubles allowing. I also want to welcome back Paul, our neighbour over at www.epic40k.com who has been away for a while and has now returned to keep his site going as strongly as ever. Welcome back, Paul.

UPDATE <15/03/2002>: After emailing the guys from 'The Hired Gun' (and getting a banner swap with them), I put together a button for them to use. Since this seems like a good idea, I have added a section for anyone who wants to link to this site containing any buttons and banners that I can put together. Any links are much appreciated, and I will try to keep adding to this page to give people a range of possible graphics. Also, while clicking through the links in the 'Additional Rules' section, I found that Games Workshop have moved some of their pages (thanks guys) and taken a load of stuff down, so I will need to rearrange the off-site links as soon as I can.

===+++=== 31/01/2002 ===+++===

We have a few things for you this update, and first up is an added link to a growing hobby page for Gothic. Also, after serious debate with the guys from the BFG Email list about the Anguish Battleship, I have revised the stats and Khyron was good enough to put together a picture of it, and so this has been updated and added in the Additional Rules section. While we are talking about the BFG Mailing list, I have compiled a number of the most common questions which are raised there and, more importantly, the answers that were given. I hope to keep this section updated with questions as they present themselves, so keep checking it out.

Also from Khyron, we have a couple of pictures of his Chaos Warlord Titans, in the Showcase section, and I have finally got around to adding the remaining header titles for the rest of the site, specifically for the Transimission Archive, Showcase, EpiComms, Links and even in the Disclaimer section!

So, all that is left this time is to talk a bit about the new edition of Epic. I think that all webmasters with pages dedicated to this game have panicked a little, and my first worry was that the URL of this site was now not valid. Obviously, now I am calmer, things seem fine, firstly because Epic describes the scale of the games that we support here (not just Epic the game) and secondly because this may bring more people into the hobby. That, with the real push and support that Gothic is due to get this Summer, should draw a lot of new people in, and I hope that this will be a chance for this site to really grow and expand. Anyway, this site will continue to have the Epic 3rd Edition articles up, and I wont be getting rid of them, and a new section will be created in time to cater for Epic Armageddon. Additionally, I hope to convert some of the rules over to the new edition, and while I expect articles for 3rd edition to be less frequent, I will still always be happy to accept them if you write them. I will be playing both games. Anyway, if I find out any news about this game, then I will let you all know.

I have also managed to unearth more pictures of Epic Tau, available on one of my favourite Epic sites, Dropship. Pictures are here and here.

UPDATE <15/02/2002>: The above links may take you to a different page now, and you might need to click on the link for 'Cry Havoc'. Work has really caught up with me recently and so updates have been a little thin for a few weeks. However, we have a couple of Gothic pictures from Sheldon this update. I am off on a short holiday and so there will be no more activity (apart from the EpiComms forums, which will keep going and generating new posts) for about two weeks. But, when I get back, I have a couple of things half done and so these should be added fairly quickly when I return.

===+++=== 25/01/2002 ===+++===

Well, things have been busy here recently, although hopefully you have not noticed too much. The more observant of you will have noticed that we have moved server. Yes, it had to happen, and it is something that I have been planning for quite a while now. We have our own domain, and not just a name forwarded on to some free space. This has three main advantages for me. Firstly, search engine can now link directly to the site, and not to the free space where all of this actually was due to a search. Secondly, I can do things like this and link directly to pages inside the site, from outside, instead of linking to the front page only. And thirdly, I get a CGI bin so I will be able to actually run the forums myself. This was another plan which has been around for a while, and it will probably take a while longer to get sorted out too. Transfering EpiComms to my own server and running it myself allows me to have complete control over what goes on, the ranking and all the other things. It also gets rid of the ads and does away with relying on a third party. Anyway, if you have any views on this, please make them heard in the current forum.

Also, this update, I have updated the Transmission Archive and broken it into two pages, for those who are on modem access and are worried about file size. I also received my copies of Gothic Mag 7 and Epic Mag 7, and so the Brace For Impact and Firepower rules status pages are updated. The server move has also thrown up a few things and I have been tidying up bits and pieces here, so if you notice anything that I have missed, please let me know.

Also, it is an exciting time for Epic players as Fanatic reveals plans for a new edition of the game, with some sweeping changes, and I am always happy to chat about these at EpiComms. All that is left is to say congratulations to Khyron for his third place in the Fanatic Gothic painting contest. We have had a picture here for a while now in the Showcase.

UPDATE <29/01/2002>: Pictures of a Gothic theme, and Epic Tau have arrived from Games Workshops Cry Havoc, and are displayed at The Reckoning.

===+++=== 12/01/2002 ===+++===

Welcome to the first update of 2002. I have had a bit of a Gothic Christmas, and this is continuing, so expect to see more updates for this game soon. First up this year is an article that I have been thinking about for a while. Basics for Gothic concentrates on the two plastic fleets included in the boxed game and is aimed at players who are just starting out or thinking about getting into the game. For those of you who are a little more experienced, a new scenario has been added - Salvage Op - dealing with the recovery of data and artifacts from a drifting ship, located between two enemy forces. Give it a try and let me know how the games went and what you thought of it.

Now that the new year is well under way, I hope to continue updating this site as often as possible. However, if any of you have anything that you would like to see here, then why not send it to me. There are still sections here that look bare and I would welcome feedback, input and new articles, pictures or whatever. Also, if there is anything that you would like to discuss, pop over to the EpiComms forums and leave a message there.
