Sabre Class Frigate
This class of vessel is the precursor to the venerable Sword frigate and dates back to the Age of Strife before
the light of the Emperor was spread throughout the far reaches of the galaxy. Designed around a veritable bank of
small but efficient drive engines no longer easily reproducible by the Adeptus Mechanicus, these ships are not very
heavily armed, but they are renowned for their incredible speed and agility and rank among one of the fastest vessels
ever produced by the children of Mankind. Already a rarity when the Horus Heresy took place, many of the surviving
examples of these ships were destroyed in the defense of Terra, and today their existence is the stuff of legend in
many sectors. Only a single surviving squadron remains operational, the 21st escort squadron Kaabrina Storms, though
records indicate that a smattering of these vessels are used in fleet composite squadrons in the sparsely populated
sectors of the Northern Rim. The Kaabrina Storms are lovingly maintained by the Tech-Priests of the Sorentis forge
world, and with rare exception they are utilized strictly in defense of the system to maintain their viability.
Occasionally more of these vessels are happened upon as hulks or during deep surveys of long-forgotten laying yards,
and each one these ships brought back into the service of the Emperor is a momentous occasion celebrated even by
sector Fleetlords themselves. Occasionally these ships are encountered as esteemed flagships of raiding bands and
pirate fleets where their speed and agility put them to great advantage. When one is thus discovered, great care is
taken to try and seize it intact to prevent its loss, though this is not always possible. The existence of these
vessels surviving as part of the dark forces of Chaos has not been confirmed, but it has not been discounted either.
