Additional Rules Battlefleet Gothic - New Ship
Anguish Class Battleship
|
Background
The Anguish Class Battleship was created by Warlord Brightclaw while he was called upon to fight an extended
action around the large asteroid belt of epsilon-gamma fourteen. The nature of the area meant that large ships became
extremely vulnerable, and fighters and bombers were able to surprise and take on ships at close range. For this reason,
he ordered the decommissioning and complete refit of one of the fleets Desolator Class Battleships, in order to allow it
to provide a supporting role, similar to that of a Devastation Class Cruiser - with additional staying power. The refit
also included the replacement of the broadside lances for the more stable weapons batteries, while the lances were moved
to the dorsal configuration. The first ship of this class, the Moloch, provide successful and on return to base a second
ship, the Raktavija, was commissioned. While lacking the hard hitting strength of other Battleships, the Anguish Class
proved itself ideal at picking off weaker opponents with ease, and providing a defensive bastion of attack craft. It is,
however, prone to attracting more aggression that it can deal with, and should be used in the role of an opportune
predator.

Notes
The Anguish started when Games Workshop had a sale. I already had my fleet organised, and I had two of the excellent
Desolator Class Battleships ready for dock and painting. However, looking around the sale website, I noticed that
the Desolator model was being sold at a price that I really could not refuse. So, I got two, on the reasoning that
even if I only used them for spares it was not a lot of money. Further thinking brought me around to creating a variant
class. My favourite ship is easily the Devastation Class Cruiser, and so I opted to create a heavier version of that.
And so, the Anguish was born. A little later, I subjected the BFG email group to the design, and things were radically
changed to make the ship more streamlined and balanced, until it represented a completely new ship and not the Desolator
variant that it had started out as.

Fleet Inclusion
Anguish Class Battleships may be used as other Battleships. Simply add the option alongside the other two Battleships in
the Chaos Fleet list - so you may choose one Battleship for every three Cruisers.

Construction
Building an Anguish class Battleship is very simple. Just take a standard Desolator class ship and
fit it with a launch bay and weapon batteries on each side, replacing the Desolators lance batteries.
It is really a matter of taste as to whether the launch bays are fitted in the forward or rear sections,
personally I prefer them in the forward position.
