Notes
These two detachments represent the core of the Genestealer forces in the army. The Patriarch
and Magus, along with their Honour Guard, are the Supreme Commanders, while the Coven detachments
represent the majority of the Purestrains and Hybrids in the Cult. And here I encountered a decision.
The Purestrain Genestealers posed a problem in that they have a knack of slowing the entire army
down, being available to most detachment types. On the one hand, Purestarins dont use technology,
and they certainly dont drive! But, on the other hand, making the close combat specialists the
least flexible and able to actually reach their target does seem slightly strange, and I could
imagine them boarding a transport if it was in their best interests. One look at the Tyranid army
list shows that Purestrains are able to be transported, it does not specifically say so, but it is
not ruled out and it is a standard ability of troops. I came to a compromise. I have included
transport as a seperate choice in the army list. This means that, if you want Purestrains with
transport, it takes up two slots.

Background
The original Purestrain Genestealer of the Cult is its head. It grows to mnore than double its original size and develops
psychic powers, making it an extremely formidable foe. At its side is the Magus, a fourth generation
hybrid who is almost indistinguishable from the host species, and who has also manifested strong
psychic powers. The Magus acts as the Cults figurehead and is a charismatic individual, a combination
of his disarming appearance and psychic abilities. Gathered around these important members are their
honour guard of human support and Genestealer kin, ready to sacrifice themselves for the good of the
Cult and its leaders.
Additionally, vast numbers of Genestealer Purestrains and Hybrids fight together, all willing to lay down
their existance for the survival of the Cult. They travel in armoured cars, blacked out to deter
prying eyes and often bulletproof. First generation hybrids retain most of the Purestrains psychological
attributes. They are bestial and unable to grasp even simple technology, prefering to close with the
enemy and fight using their strong claws. However, sufficient of the host species psychological makeup
tempers this instinct, and they are able to fulfill a valuable role as scouts and shock troops, and to
understand a more tactical nature and the value of subtlety. Further generations become more able to
use and understand weaponry, and as they resemble the host species they lose the Purestrains ferocious
ability in close combat, but replace it with the use of longer ranged firepower. They also become more
likely to develop psychic powers, or to have a psyker accompanying them.
They are also joined by human relatives or the parents of the hybrids, the bonds of parenthood having
been perverted and strengthened, and these humans are able to bring other weaponry and transport,
usually from the Planetary Defence Force.

Chain Of Command: Patriarch > Magus > Hybrid > Brood Brother > Any
Any part of this detachment can be designated HQ, subject to the chain of command. If the
original HQ is destroyed then the next unit in the chain of command becomes the new
HQ.
|
|
Notes:
| |
Each Commander and his Honour Guard forms a seperate detachment. Detachments which have their
HQ within 30cm of the Commander become Stubborn and may re-roll their Leadership tests.
| |
If the Commander (not just his Honour Guard) participates in an assault or firefight you may
re-roll the dice for that combat.
