Competition - May 2002

Back To The Library

Prize:

A one years subscription (for new subscribers)/extension (for existing subscribers) to either Epic Magazine or Gothic Magazine.

Dates:

This prize draw runs from 1st May 2002, and closes at midnight (UK time) at the end of 31st May 2002.

Details:

The idea is simple. Every time you send in an article for this site, I add your name to the list. The competition will run throughout the month of May, and at the end of this month I will roll my 'dice of choosing' and the winner will get the subscription. You can enter as often as you like, and anyone who enters has a chance of winning. If you submit three articles then you have three times the chance of winning.

There are numerous ways to enter:
  • Submit an article - Any article submitted to me during the month of May is automatically entered into the draw. Players Index details, web site links, Showcase pictures and EpiComms forum posts are not included. The article must be received by me, by email, by midnight (UK time) at the last day of May. This may be the first draft and any final articles (which first drafts are submitted by the close of the competition) must be received in the same way by midnight at the end of the 7th June 2002. Note that the article must be accepted by me and uploaded to this site (although articles may be uploaded after the close of the competition) and rejected articles will not be entered into the draw, but you can enter the prize draw in this way as many times as you like during May.
  • EpiComms forum posts - Any poster who makes five or more posts will be entered into the draw once. However, I will decide what constitutes a valid post (multiple posts of 'yeah' or spamming will not get you friends or entered into the draw).
  • Showcase - Anyone submitting pictures of their models which are accepted and added to the Showcase section will be entered into the draw. You will only be entered into the draw once, irrespective of how many pictures are added, and only those pictures which actually make it into the site will be counted.

Reading through this list, it makes me sound like a dictator. However, there are rarely occassions when I do not accept a submission, and these rules need to be there to ensure that someone who enters with three or four well written articles is not beaten by a single forum post of 'yeah'.

There should be no reason for people not to enter this draw, as the site is set up to accept most submissions. Got an opinion on Epic Armageddon? Write a general article for the Library. Come up with a scenario? Send it in. Thinking about getting down to that story? It is welcome here. Got ideas for conversions or new Gothic models? We have a painting and converting section in the Library. Even simply putting together your battle forces with a bit if background and tactics will fit in with the Battle Groups section!

As with most competitions of this kind, the judges (me!) decision is final and no cash alternatives are offered. Good luck.

Notes - 03/05/2002:

I have had a few questions and so I thought that I would add any relevent information here.

The reasons that I have decided on a magazine subscription as a prize are:
  • After an email to Games Workshop Mail Order, I was assured that the subscription could be placed for any country in the world. Therefore, this prize draw is open to everyone, internationally.
  • If you are already a subscriber, and win, you may chose to simply extend your subscription by a further year.
I should also point out that the responsibilty to actually deliver the magazines is that of Games Workshop, and this site cannot be held responisible for any errors or problems being determined as within their domain.

Closing Notes - 15/06/2002:

With the close of the competition, I thought that I would add some details here. Firstly, and most importantly, the dice have spoken and the winner was Tom Murrath, from Belgium. His Gothic Magazine subscription is now organised, and I will get his submission added to the site as soon as I can. Well done to Tom.

In general, the competition was more successful than I feared that it would be, and by the end of May we had a total of nineteen names:

  • Six people entered by making five or more posts in the EpiComms forums
  • Four people entered by sending in pictures for the Showcase
  • Nine people sent in articles to the site
Additionally, all of the entries made by submitting articles were for Gothic, and the Epic side of the site was completely over-shadowed by the Gothic.

I must admit that I was very happy with the number of entries, as my biggest fear when starting this was that I would get about three entries from the same people! I was also a little surprised as I thought that I would get more background and battle group articles, as these seem to be the easiest to put together.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who took part. I will certainly think about running this type of thing again in the near future, so if you have any ideas for a competition, or would like to see a repeat of this one, let me know in the EpiComms forums.

Thanks again, CyberShadow.
