With the last turn being fairly heavy in terms of damage, I decided that it was time that I got the hell out of Dodge. With this in mind, the Sariel went on All Ahead Full, being the fleet carrier it could neither dish out nor take a lot of punishment and so it seemed prudent to clear it from the board, which it did. Similarly, and with the old adage 'full ahead and damn the torpedoes', the Abigor powered forwards and through a salvo of torpedoes directly ahead of it. The turrets could not find the missiles with the ships movement, but the one hit was saved by the ship bracing for impact.

The Iblis and lone Iconoclast also surged forwards, the escort moving through a blast marker in order to follow the most direct route to safety. There was little action in the firing phase, with only the Abigor and Iblis being able to find targets. The Abigor managed to strike the Repulse twice with her weapons batteries, while the Iblis found Pallas with her weapons, again scoring two hits which struck the cruisers shields. In the ordnance phase, the Chaos fighters intercepted and took out a rogue torpedoe salvo. At the end of the Chaos turn, two blast markers dissipated back into the void.

This looked to be the last turn that the Imperial fleet would get, and with this in mind Tim was forced to use his last reroll when the Sovereign of Stars failed its command check to go on All Ahead Full orders, but the Repulse failed its reload orders for its torpedo tubes. The Imperial fleet pursued the Chaos ships as best they could, with the Repulse, the Michael Paleoglas and Cobra H squadron all braving movement through blast markers to cut down on time and distance. All the ships made their movement with no ill effects.

The Imperial fleet threw all that it had at the fleeing Chaos ships. H Squadron targeted the Chanak, the last Iconoclast, and the storm of firepower blew it apart in a spectacular explosion. The Abigor seemed to be blessed by its patron as it was targeted in succession by J squadron and then the Repulse but no hits found their mark. The Michael Paleoglas threw its weight at the Iblis, scoring three hits and including a critical hit which raked the engine rooms of the cruiser. The Pallas tried to follow up this damage, but could not find its target.

In the ordnance phase, the Sovereign of Stars sent both bombers and torpedoes into space. The torpedoes passed through two blast markers safely and on towards the Iblis, but two were cut down by defence turrets and the rest missed the cruiser. The bombers also sped towards the Iblis, but after scoring four attacks only one caused any damage to the cruiser. Six blast markers left the table and I relaxed that the turn was done.

With the loss of the flagship, the order went round to head to the Chaos rendezvous point at speed. With this, the Sariel slipped away while the Abigor and the Iblis covered her passage. In order to keep in formation, and not to stray out of mutual support, the Abigor passed through a cloud of torpedoes, but while there were a number of detonations, the cruiser reported no damage. The pair of cruisers then opened up on the nearest Imperial vessels, and were rewarded by the flare of several shields being overloaded.

Still the Imperial fleet came on, and were getting too close for Khans liking. He uttered a threat under his breath to the pilot who paled considerably. The Abigor became the target of a number of guns, but shrugged off the barages with few problems. A large cruiser descended on the Iblis and the Chaos cruiser shook as it took a number of hits. There were screams over the internal comms and lights dimmed as the ship registered a number of hits to the engine room which cut power to seventy percent. More explosions rocked the cruiser from another angel as a second Imperial cruiser tried to find a target.

On the bridge, all was silent as the screens registered several attackers inbound. The turrets worked until they ran hot, taking out enough torpedoes to reduce the threat to minimal, and the remainder of the missiles flew past. However, the bombers which followed the torpedoes were able to get much nearer while the defences were occupied and they commenced a number of bombing runs. External screens showed the flare of explosions as bombs hit the superstructure, but most caused no serious problems. One found a weakness in the cruisers hull, detonating under the protective plating, and the cruiser groaned but held together.
