To Tims surprise, the Courageous actually managed to reload its launch bays this turn, but the run of luck was brought to an aprupt halt as the Glorious failed its reload order. The three ships trawled forwards, carefully trying to avoid the torpedo salvo fired by the Infidels last turn but the Glorious could not turn fast enough, and both the Glorious and Furious tried in vain to bring down the Chaos fighter wings with their weapons batteries.

In the ordnance phase, the Glorious took out on of the six torpedoes that it had moved through, and none of the remaining missiles managed to damage the ship. Tim let out a breath that he had been hold for far too long since the movement phase. The Glorious then returned fire, launching a full salvo of torpedoes against the Infidels. Two were taken down with turrets, but enough still remained to tear through the Malcodia and envelope it in explosions.

The Courageous followed suit, also launching six torpedoes against the Infidels, and again was rewarded with a kill. This time it was the Namtar which was destroyed, even after it had managed to account for two torpedoes with its defences. The Courageous then sent four bomber wings into the void, but these were quickly hunted down by the Chaos fighters which had been stationed around the fleet for exactly this reason. A further wave of four wings of Swiftdeath fighters burned thrusters and headed to the front of the fleet to protect the lead ships.

Both squadrons of Idolators and the Iblis managed to aquire targets and lock on as the fleet closed in on the Glorious which was on the edge of the formation, but the Sariel failed its command check. The Infidels failed to damage the carrier with their weapon batteries, and both E and F squadrons of Idolators also failed to score any hits at all, despite being armed with both lances and weapon batteries and being on Lock On special orders! When the Agaures also failed to hit with its weapons, I started to wonder if these three ships would be able to see off my entire fleet, but it then scored a couple of lance hits, stripping the Glorious of its protective shields.

Time was running short in the real world, and this was going to have to be the last turn that we played. With this in mind, I needed to make the last few shots count. That would have been great, but as it was the Sariel hit once with its lances and the Iblis failed to damage at all. The three squadrons which managed to go on Lock On managing to score a total of zero damage points with rerolls! And with that, the game was declared officially over. We finished our cups of tea and started to pack up.

Johanson felt a surge of releif as the Courageous signalled reloaded launch bays seconds before the great hanger doors swung backwards and the tiny forms of the bomners darted out into space, immediately forming a defencive formations in case any enemy were waiting for them outside.

Commander Wilks turned to the Master Gunner and pointed to the swarms of Chaos attack craft on the tactical display. There was pause of perhaps sixty seconds before the hull of the Furious reverberated with low-pitched percussion and the barrels of the hundreds of weapons studding the hull of the Furious spat their huge ammuniation into space. Beside the Furious, the Glorious did the same, adding her firepower to the barrage in an attempt to saturate an area of space with explosive shells and leave nowhere for the Chaos fighters to escape to.

The Glorious then made slight course adjustments and the torpedo tube covers slide back, gass escaping as soon as they did. There was a brief fire from inside the tubes before the missiles emerged, their plasma reactors burning bright white hot as they powered the weapons, and would provide the explosion when they reached their target. As the torpedoes approached the squadron of Chaos ships, just identifiable in the distance, there was a series of explosions, and all eyes turned to the tactical display as one of the Chaos escort ships faded from operational white to destroyed grey.

Further down the formation line, the Courageous performed the same action, as commander of the squadron waited for the Chaos fleet to get within close range where they would have less time to react to the attack, and another icon from the same squadron faded out of the battle.

But still the Chaos fleet came on, and they were entering visual range now. Johanson stared at the ships, which seemed designed for only the purpose of the destruction. While the Imperial fleet gave the impression of vast cathedrals of devotion and cities of light, the Chaos vessels were vicious in their design and seemed to be built with function in mind.

The remains of the Idolators had approached the carrier formation from the side, and fired all weapons at the closest target, the Glorious. She was hit with both weapons salvoes and lances, but the attacks failed to be on target and her shield strength held at full power. The three capital ships then leant their weight to the attack, and an even heavier erruption of firepower struck the Imperial vessel. Her shields flarred as lances overloaded them before an explosion signified the Glorious taking a hit, the huge lance battery scorching a blackened line down her hull and opening up a vast chasm. Decks were faintly visible behind the huge cloud of escaping gases and flares were seen as small pockets of gas burned and exploded before being extinguished by the void.
