Armies: Imperial Guard vs. Dark Angel Space Marines

Notes: This game was played using a demo edition of the Epic Armageddon rules. There may be some inconsistencies
when compared to the current edition.

Turn One
The insidious Dark Angels under the leadership of John have invaded the slumbering agri-world of Crete IV. They
have been detected searching through the ancient ruins of Minos along the Krystaline river. This unauthorized
invasion of our homeworld must be stopped. Local Imperial Guard forces have been mobilized and are enroute.
Dark Angel detachments search the ruins for reasons known only to themselves.

In the wake of a Maurauder bomber run a Dark Angel tactical detachment is trounced.

By the end of the first turn the results were a mixed bag for the IG defenders. Several failed orders stalled
them when speed was imperative. On the plus side a Thunderhawk carrying a Terminator was shot down by Hydra AA
fire. The Terminators had been slated to take out my artillery company. Again my Warlord sleeps.

Turn Two
Using their superior speed and mobility Dark Angel assault troops race up the (my) right flank meeting the guard
in their third of the table. The hits scored by this armoured fist platoon are easily “saved” by the Dark Angels
power armour.

The shooting from a second armoured fist platoon is also ineffectual! And a bombardment from my “Overwatched”
artillery company also proved to be worthless.

Two detachments of Dark Angel Land Raiders ford the rives and grab an objective. Meanwhile a full-strength
Armoured Fist company is stalled on their way to the same objective. In turn three this same incompetent
A.F. company loses a fire-fight with the Land Raider, withdrawing into the cover of the woods. Only one
Land Raider was lost through some of the heaviest fighting of the battle.

Turn Three
A second highlight occurs as a combined assault group consisting of 8 units of Assault Marines and 4 Bikes
charge into hand-to-hand combat with armoured fist platoon company #1. Here’s a picture taken at the beginning
of the assault:

Armoured Fist platoon #2 can be seen counter-charging into fire-fight range in the background.
Now here’s a picture taken after all of the casualties have been removed:

Amazingly I managed to save 2 Chimeras by rolling two sixes. Even move amazing is that the I.G. actually
won the assault. The stubborn defense caused the Dark Angels to recoil. Such tenacity and bravery was
unexpected from these lowly guardsmen. So the Dark Angels fell back to regroup, as did Armoured Fist
platoon #1, with #2 standing firm in their resolve to not let the mysterious power armoured warriors
defile their world. But in the end it was of no avail.

Turn Four
Slowly, but surely the I.G. were pushed back as the Dark Angels continued to ransack the ruins and then
departed as swiftly as they had come.

Conclusion
Things could have been different, but numerous failed command rolls handicapped the I.G. as it tried to
push forward. Shooting was also below average. John on the otherhand was average with his shooting and
above average with his saves. All-in-all though, a very entertaining game.
Final score: Dark Angels 20, Imperial Guard 10.
