Situation
800 Years ago (Imperial Calendar) the sabbat system was liberated my warmaster Macroth’s crusade, 97.7% of
the Sabbat worlds were cleansed of the Archenemies forces. The few remaining pockets (Located primarily on
Feral and Death worlds) were left for regular Sabbat sector garrison forces to deal with as crusade forces
continued eastwards.
These pockets were systematically reduced by in-sector forces, Almost all of the pockets had been purged
when 8 months ago a Warlord, titled Bane Morgar (Warlord of Tzeentch), launched an assault on the Agri world
of Persius IV, Planetary Defence Forces (PDF) were taken by complete surprise and the world was raised,
Inquisitorial elements sent to investigate were alarmed by the apparent strength of bane’s forces.
Approximately 7 months ago, At request of the Sacred Inquisition the Divisio Militaris began organising
Battlegroup Ares to counter the threat of the Archenemies incursions. However during the intervening period
Arch-Enemy forces have stormed the Hive world of Giaella Prime and took control of it’s vast industrial
complexes, Allied with a minor Ork Xenos Breed warlord, Gurllak (Goff Warlord), they began to infiltrate
the surrounding systems.
Inquisitorial and Arbites forces countered the initial insurgencies but when combined Ork Xenos Breed and
Arch-Enemy forces assaulted the surrounding systems, there success was unmitigated, City after city, Continent
after continent, world after world fell to there assault.
Five imperial systems fell in quick succession with encroachments on seven others, if something was not done
immediately the entire Sabbat sector might be in danger, Battlegroup Ares was activated and ordered to purge
the Arch-Enemy from the occupied systems.

Battle Group Ares
Due to the scale of the Arch-Enemies incursion, Divisio Militaris planners have decided that the most
efficient way to deal with the incursion is by a rapid counterstrike by Adeptus Astartes forces combined
alongside elements allocated from the strategic reserve, Allied Dwaervi forces (Klangeddin League), Local
Guard Garrison forces (Also includes contributory forces) and elements of the 403rd Takedian Guard Regiment.
Any other mass deployment of regimental strength guard units would take time and allow the arch-enemies forces
time to consolidate there holdings.
It is to be noted however that the 148th Tyre-Minos Imperial Guard Regiment has been mobilised to be deployed
along the Archenemies axis of advance to prevent any more systems from being tainted.
Command - Due to the nature of the operation and the composition of the enemy it has been decided
that the force will come under the command of Inquisitor Lord Albrecht Seer, assigned from the Ordo Mallues
branch of the sacred Inquisition.
Lord Seer’s military background is extensive, He has commanded three Inquisitorial task forces against a
variety of threats (Classified Data) and has political connections with the Biel-Tan craftworld, who support
three colonies and one Exodite world in the region.
Battle Group Rank - Supreme Commander, Inquisitorial Lord Militant.
Command Structure - The combination of several disparate imperial guard formations has led to the
formation of the 4th (Von Schtafflens) Expeditionary Brigade. Under the command of Lieutenant-General
Janus Von Schtafflen. Also due to the nature of the opposition note that exceptional effort has been made
to ensure that commissar’s are allocated to every company.
The Imperial Navy have allocated the task force Divine Intervention, under the command of Rear-Admiral
Santiago Quintillius, the Taskforces primary role shall be to enable and support planetary landings in
support of battlegroup Ares, All other standing navy orders regarding pirate action and excise duty are
hereby superseded.
The forces of the Divine Astartes provided by the master of the Templar Chapter are under the command of
Captain Simon Crucible. In all matters military they have complete operational independence from the battlegroup.
Command of the Allied Dwaerwi forces falls to Hrumgwar Steelhelm, Master of the Jarl Brotherhood. For the
purposes of the command structure, they take orders directly from the Supreme Commander.

Force Allocation Justification
Adeptus Astartes
The core of Battlegroup Ares is the 4th company, Templar marine chapter, Captain Simon Crucible commanding. The
company is stationed in the Sabbat sector to assist the Deathwatch chapter in monitoring and containing Xenos
activity in the Sabbat sector. The alliance between Ork Xenos and archenemy forces is potentially dangerous,
so allocation of the blessed Astartes forces to this situation is deemed appropriate, Adeptus forces shall
form the drop force of the battlegroup seizing strategic objectives and countering Archenemy plans.
Divisio Militaris
The allocation of such mixed guard forces, whilst common enough in battlegroup formations, is rare in standard
guard operations, so an initial decision was taken to ensure that commissars are assigned to all company level
or higher formations in the battlegroup.
Allocated from strategic reserve - Units allocated from the strategic reserve are mainly specialized
formations for use in specific roles or duties.
- 3834th Necromundian Grenadiers, are a mechanized infantry unit specializing in Anti-Ork Xenos
methods and tactics, re-enforced with Stormtrooper and support platoons
- 82nd Catachan Rangers, are a light infantry formation, specialising in Recce and covert
operations, re-enforced with Ogryn and Sniper sections
- 28th Verfunghaeven Independent Heavy Armour Company, a primary reserve unit.
- XXXVth Gryphonian Independent Tank Battalion is the Battlegroups primary armoured formation.
- Pax Imperialis, Warlord Titan, Steel Hearts Titan Order, Ancient and honoured war machine,
deployed to counter any Arch-Enemy abominations or Ork Xenos Breed Gargants
403rd Takedian Guard Regiment, 1217th Takedian Rifle Battalion. - The 403rd Takedian is currently being
re-supplied and reorganised after duty against Eldar Xenos breed raiders in the northern systems of the Sabbat
sector, being the only cohesive formation available to sector command the 1217th were appropriated from the
403rd regiment and included in Battlegroup Ares.
- ‘Fire’ Motor Rifle Company, Standard Mechanized Infantry Company, standard heavy infantry of the
imperial guard, re-enforced with support platoon.
- ‘Earth’ Rifle Company, Standard Mechanized Infantry Company, re-enforced with support platoon.

Local Imperial Forces - The apparent resurrection of the Archenemies forces in the Sabbat sector has
caused much consternation amongst the Sabbat worlds, many planets have raised extra regiments of PDF and
offered forces to aid in the reduction of the Archenemy held worlds.

world of Urdeshi Prime, In memory of the aid granted by imperial forces in the liberation of Urdeshi prime.
- 93rd Stygian Guard Regiment, Elements Of, Currently garrisoning the world of Aexe Cardinal, these
companies were selected for duty with the Battlegroup when sector command asked for available units

with support, Ogryn and Sniper platoons.
- 205th (Gallaich Hive) Artillery Battery, 93rd Stygian Guard Regiment, Standard Artillery Company,

- Qu’ans Squadron, XXXVIIth Attlian Outrider Regiment, One of several units allocated by the regiment,
currently engaged on Ephirius Secundus, engaging Feral world rebels at the behest of the local Monarch.
- 9024th Imperial Ground Attack Squadron, 'The Werewolves', The only task specific unit allocated to
the Battlegroup from the Imperial Navy.
Klangeddin League
Klangeddin League, Allied Dwaerwi Forces - The Klangeddin League is native to the Sabbat sector, their
world, Karak Zhufdan, settled over 2000 years ago by Dwaerwi pioneers, there mutual protection pacts and trading
partnership with the Imperium is well documented, The leagues governing council fulfilled Imperial requests for aid by
supplying some of the most ancient and highly honoured weapons in there arsenal. The reaction of the league to
calls for imperial assistance have been excellent, However certain elements in the sacred inquisition believe
this to be a reaction from their tenuous political standing within the imperium. Commanded by the nephew of the
current league king, there performance and deployment may prove a potential political problem at a later date,

its allocation to the battlegroup is a symbol of the leagues determination to defeat Archenemy forces.

league, used as both mobile firebase and in a titan support role.

- Impart the Pax Imperialis to occupied worlds.
- Restore the divine inquisitions presence on the emperors world.
- Enforce the emperor’s will.
